A review of Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital by Janet Fairfoot nee Whittem written on Friday 26th of August 2016
After an interview with Matron Miss Pugh Jones I started my training in May 1961 and lived in the nurses home in Stoney Stanton Road. We did 6 weeks introduction at the Birches on Tamworth Road. Miss Taylor and Mr Fenn were our tutors.
We were based at either Coventry & Warwickshire or Keresley hospital, the wards were long Nightingale ones and the sisters were terrifying, but the patients were well looked after. I Qualified in 1964 and eventually became a sister on the children's ward at Keresley. Happy days. I left in 1969 when I became pregnant with my first daughter. She also became a nurse and now one of my granddaughters is coming into the 2nd year of which is now a 4 year degree course at university. Changed times and not always for the better!.
